IDEIA principles policy

The IDEIA principles—Impact, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility—have become widely recognized and promoted as fundamental values in fostering a fairer, more equitable, and inclusive society. These principles have been increasingly addressed across various fields of knowledge, both in Brazil and internationally.

Eclética Química is progressively adopting these principles, acknowledging that while some may not directly influence outcomes in the exact sciences, their relevance in scientific research is well established. The journal adheres to the IDEIA principles in its scientific practices, recognizing their impact as demonstrated by empirical studies. In numerous countries, research has examined whether gender influences specific variables. When data indicate that gender affects outcomes, it must be taken into account. Accordingly, the journal supports the disaggregation of data by sex and gender when such factors are shown to influence results.

When the influence of factors such as sex, gender, race, ethnicity, or disability is scientifically substantiated, authors are encouraged to disaggregate data accordingly and to include analyses that reflect these differences.

The journal maintains a strict policy against disrespectful language in any form—whether from authors in manuscripts or responses to reviewers, from reviewers in their evaluations, or from editors during the peer review process, including decisions regarding manuscript acceptance or rejection.

Eclética Química upholds the IDEIA principles by promoting impact, diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in the production and dissemination of scientific knowledge in Chemistry and related fields, both in Brazil and abroad.

Impact is pursued by enhancing the quality of articles and reviews and by addressing critical topics in Chemistry Education that are essential for the training of students and educators. The journal permits the publication of reviews, opinion pieces, and author responses, with or without anonymity. It identifies the Associate Editor responsible for each article and, when necessary, updates its review forms annually based on feedback from reviewers and authors. Article-level metrics are made transparent, and the journal’s history is regularly updated.

Diversity is reflected in the composition of the editorial board, which includes representatives from nearly all regions of Brazil as well as from countries across South America, North America, Europe, and Asia. Reviewer selection, whenever possible, considers diverse perspectives and academic backgrounds, geographic representation, cultural contexts, and gender balance.

Equity is promoted by inviting both women and men with relevant qualifications to serve as editorial board members. Gender balance is considered whenever feasible, including in the selection of reviewers.

Inclusion is achieved through the participation of authors and reviewers from diverse countries and continents, as well as through the diverse composition of the editorial team. The journal ensures a fair and transparent editorial process, offering equal opportunities for all researchers to submit their work. Submissions and publications are free of charge, and all articles and supplementary materials are openly accessible. Through social media, the journal aims to facilitate the inclusion of diverse instructional levels of the public, thereby making the knowledge more easily available.

Accessibility is supported through publication in multiple formats (PDF and EPUB), facilitating the dissemination of knowledge by scientific distributors. Author and reviewer guidelines are available in accessible formats, and the journal’s website complies with international digital accessibility standards. Through social media, the journal aims to expand its reach and increase the accessibility of its content. Efforts are also underway to enable Braille reading for English-language content and to provide audio access to articles in English in the future.
