Resumo

Neste estudo, dois compostos derivados dos componentes bioativos da Sclerocarya birrea (S. birrea), uma planta nativa da Nigéria, foram examinados quanto à sua composição bioquímica, eficácia antibacteriana e estrutura molecular. O pirogalol (94,72 e 46,77%) e a hidroxiquinol, identificada exclusivamente no extrato de hexano, foram os principais componentes bioativos extraídos da planta estudada, S. birrea (52,71%). Um composto químico polifenólico conhecido como pirogalol demonstrou ter ampla atividade antibacteriana. Os extratos de etanol e hexano da casca de S. birrea demonstraram um potencial antibacteriano significativo contra todo o painel de bactérias testadas neste estudo, indicando que os extratos da planta têm uma ampla gama de atividade em comparação com as bactérias de interesse mais frequentemente responsáveis por infecções do trato urinário. Devido à alta concentração fenólica no extrato da casca da planta, os resultados antirradicais também mostraram que S. birrea tinha uma capacidade antioxidante muito significativa. Verificou-se, a partir do acoplamento molecular, que o pirogalol poderia inibir 80% dos receptores estudados.
